American Airlines Flight 862 makes an emergency landing
2:44pm CT: The pilot has made a superb landing via aerodynamic breaking by holding the plane’s nose up
American Airlines flight 862 is making an emergency landing in Miami due to nose gear door trouble. There are 138 passengers including the crew (there are 5 crew members). The flight was scheduled to fly from Palm Beach to Chicago. The current plan is to burn some fuel off and land at Miami International Airport.
It originally made a fly by near the airport tower at which point the air traffic control notified the pilot that the front landing wheel was 70 percent retracted.
News agencies have aired footage of the aircraft flying around the airport, they have made note that the aircraft has sufficient fuel.
It is expected that there may be a few sparks from the front landing wheel. The airport fire department will be there expecting its arrival. It is speculated that they may spray some foam on the front landing wheel or any area should anything occur.
Updated 2:20pm CT: The airport fire department has just been dispatched to await the landing of the aircraft.
